What will Affect Fiber Laser Cutting Quality?

After using the fiber laser cutting machine for several years, many customers found that the fiber laser cutting effect is not as good as before. For example, both fiber laser cutting accuracy and speed have dropped. So, what is the reason for the decline in the processing effect of the fiber laser cutting machine?

In fact, there are many factors that affect the cutting quality of fiber laser cutters. The affecting factors may include cutting height, cutting nozzle type, focus position, cutting power, cutting frequency, cutting duty cycle, cutting air pressure, cutting speed, protective glasses, gas purity, quality of processing materials, focusing mirrors, and collimating mirrors.

Therefore, when we encounter the poor cutting quality of fiber laser cutting machine, we can consider the following aspects.

1.Laser Power

The higher the laser power is, the better the cutting quality will be and the higher the fit between the laser cutting mode and the material.

2. Focus Position

The focus position affects the cutting accuracy, especially the focus diameter. At the same time, the focus diameter is proportional to the focal depth of the focusing lens. The smaller the focal depth of the focusing lens, the smaller the focus diameter. And the smaller the focus diameter and the smaller the slit, the better the cut quality.

3. Processing Material

The surface roughness of the material also determines the cutting quality. In general, the smoother the material, the better the cut quality.

4. Auxiliary Gas

The higher the auxiliary gas pressure, the higher the gas purity, the fewer impurities attached to the material, and the smoother the cut. Oxygen cutting is the fastest. While nitrogen cutting is the best and the most economical. Generally speaking, different gases have different cutting effects.

5. Workpiece Thickness

The larger the workpiece thickness, the lower the accuracy, and the larger the kerf. Therefore, the fiber laser cutting machine is most suitable for cutting thin plates. And the processing quality and efficiency of the fiber laser cutters are also significantly improved when cutting thin metal plates.

6. Cutting speed

The cutting speed has a great influence on the cutting quality. A suitable cutting speed will make the cutting surface appear smooth and no slag will be produced at the lower part. If the cutting speed is too fast, the material will not be cut through, causing sparks to fly, slag easily generated, and even burn the lens. If the cutting speed is too slow, it is easy to cause over-melting of the material, widening the slit, increasing the heat-affected zone, and even causing the workpiece to be over-melted.

7. Nozzle

The aperture of the nozzle, the distance between the nozzle light outlet and the material surface will affect the fiber laser cutting effect. Too far between the workpiece and the nozzle will waste kinetic energy. But too close will cause splashing. For this reason, the height of the nozzle and workpiece must always remain the same during operation. And the most suitable distance is 0.8mm.
